That’s right, we’ve only got three days until we get on a plane and fly away to the land of the long white cloud!
I don’t really feel excited or stress – I think I still don’t truly believe it’s happening. Like really, we’re going to walk the length of a country? Come on, pull the other one.
We have most of our gear now except for the headlamps which still haven’t arrived. If they don’t arrive by tomorrow, then we’ll go and buy some from a shop.
We’ve been trying on all of our gear and testing everything out.
I’m still not quite sure what I’m going to do with the violin. It straps onto my pack nicely, but I need to have something to protect it from the elements. Yes, I know I’m crazy for taking an instrument on the trail, but everyone has their one stupid item. At least it only weighs 600g.
(Note, I had a tantrum about how heavy my pack was and sent the violin home after a week)
We finished cutting down the last sleeping bags and I’ve almost finished sewing the gaiters. All I have to do for them now is glue bits of Velcro on the backs of our shoes for them to attach to.
The last few days have been a mad rush of chores. Today we’re going out to meet up with some friends for the last time before we go and then we’re going over to visit some family.
I think it’s going to be nice not having to run around like a headless chook when we get on the trail. All we’ll have to do is walk.
That’s it for now as I’ve got to go run around like a headless chook for a few more days!
